I am looking to purchase a 94,95, or 96, Ford F-150 or F-250. Most used trucks in this category have between 125-225K miles.

For longevity, a good engine is key.


QUESTIONS
1) What 94,95,96 engine is the best for longevity.
2) How many miles should one of these engines last?

I have 96 f150 4.9 I 6 with 5 spd man trans with 192000 miles, I purchased new in 95 this has been a great truck. I have kept,oil changed,plugs filters and all normal wear items repaired or replaced and have had only issues relating to preventive maint. Recently I've been having to replace gaskets that are worn out to length of service. That said I would purchase the same again if available. The engines long term performance is directly related to how well it is maintained but the 4.9 inline 6 cyd is a work horse. I have heard that ford discontinued this engine because of its dependability. If a vehicle will last a lifetime you would never need to purchase a new one. Best of luck to you.
