Still having issues, but only after the fuel tank gets below 1/2 full. It won't start, hot or cold. I did get it to start once after removing the cap on the tank and putting back, thinking it might be pulling a vacuum. New pumps, filters and just about all of the sensors under the hood. Checked function of the EGR valve. Letting the fuel pump run for a bit before hitting the starter doesn't seem to help much, either. It will run, but never seems to pressurize the system. Pressure regulator has been replaced. Does this fuel system have a way to install a bleeder valve on the fuel rail? Any other ideas?

Checked fuel pressure. Key on, engine off it checks at 54 psi. While cranking it drops to 41 psi,or so. It will almost start, but 40 psi isn't enough. I figure there is either a obstruction in the line somewhere, or a voltage drop to the pump. I tried disconnecting the fuel line from the filter and blowing compressed air at the test valve. Almost nothing came through the supply line, so it must have gone around the return line. I don't see anything that looks like a check valve in the supply line between the filter and the fuel rail. Is there? The filter is new, as are the pumps and front tank. I could replace the filter, but am not convinced that is the problem. No codes are present. Once it starts, it runs so smoothly, I don't think there are other issues going on. The new front tank is nearly full now, so it isn't starving there.

I have a 87 ford inline 6 ! my truck was doing the same as yours. It was the fuel preure regulator .Its located under the intake manifold ,while the truck is running take off the vacum line that goes from the regulater into your intake and see if there is fuel coming out of the vacum line .If there is that would be your flooding problem .My truck was also surging up and down at a idle !it was the fuel pump on the rail . even thoe it was onley 3 pounds under what its supposed to be that was it ,hope i could help

Seems to me he replaced the Pressure Regulator. But he did blow air in the line so the diaphragm in it needs to be tested. I hope u know this is a old post with no update on whether the truck is fixed or not.

We finally replaced the ECU and the tank selector switch. That seemed to take care if the issues. There was some discoloration on the ECU circuit board, and the switch replacement is never a bad thing as cheap as they are.
The truck has been sold to another lucky owner, so there will be no more posts from me on this one.
