I cannt speak to the HID reverse option mentioned here, but I have a hard time believing that you are going to get all the light you are expecting with anything that goes in the OEM bulb location. I tried many different led set ups and finally just left the brightest led bulbs in to match what turned out to be by far and away the best bang (light output) for the buck, VLED liscense plate.

These in combination with LEDs in the OEM reverse location are are so bright that I have considered wiring them into a separate switch to used against cars tailgating me in the daytime! At night, it truely is like the difference between seeing the grass or counting the individual blades of grass.
