Why do off road vehicals only face their lights forward?
I'm about to install some auxiliary lights on my roof to face forward and im wondering if i should spend some extra money to have flood lights facing the right and left side of the vehicle.
I notice that most jeeps and even high performance baja trucks only face them forward but the last time I went off roading I thought to myself about how nice it would be to see off to my sides especially when going slow though a lot of trees. It can be be pitch black up there and It would be nice to see if im about to hit something or fall off an edge when taking sharp turns. maybe also at intersections when I dont want to have to turn the whole vehicle in a tight spot to see down a trail off to my right or left.
is it important enough to have lights on the sides or do most offroaders do fine with just the main forward facing lights?
I haven't installed my aux lights yet to test it but I need to know before I install them so I know if I should leave room to wire in more switches in my switch box for the side lights. (whole nother story)

I would mount in all directions.
I haven't done a lot of off roading at night but when I was in Iraq it was really nice to see all around you in the dark.
You may want to use a lower power setup on the sides so you don't get a lot of glare back into the truck if you are passing real close to a tree or something.

Why would you want to see where the front of the truck has already been ?? I guess if you have the room and extra money....go for it.

Just call me sean. Really
I agree with wanting light everywhere. When I'm off road, I've got the front lights on, and then lights on the back bumper lighting up behind me, and eventually I'll add some maybe between the bumper and fender side facing to light up everything. Cheap walmart lights though, don't drop good money on lights that are going to point where you're not always looking

I have a hand held spot for that ...

I mounted 4 in my grille. the middle 2 are pointed forward. the outer 2 are at a 45 degree outward. Not quite lighting up the sides but I find it helpful. It really pays off with deer back in the woods.

When i had offroad lights, i had 6 of them. 2 pointing forward, then 45*, then 90*. That way i had light in a full 180* radius. I believe in being able to see in any direction, especially when on a trail.
