Default Supp Brake Light activating tow package indicators

So I added the LED Brake light under the tailgate which I really like. It plugs into the lighting plug near the hitch. Only problem if sets off the Tow Package indicators on the dash that a trailer is connected and activates the sway bar every time I start the truck. I had U Haul splice the line and add a plug connection under the truck to plug it in and it still does this. Not sure how to solve this problem. Any Suggestions?

First, don't let U-Haul touch your truck... Anyone would know that whether you use the plug or tap the line would yield the same result.

This is a well-known issue. You cannot tap into the wiring as you found out, you need to run power from elsewhere, such as a fused lead from the battery.

Also, not only are you activating anti-sway, but you're likely accumulating mileage under the Trailer setting...

Isn't he disabling the rear sensors as well since it THINKS there's something plugged into his trailer harness.

Could you not resolve this problem by diode isolating to wires so that the truck doesn't actually receive feed back as in the trucks computer does not see the add on , I myself was going to add reverse lights and tap into the 7 pins reverse wire

I installed the Putco Blade and have the same issues, the truck will say trailer light fault then say trailer connected then disconnected. I called Putco and was told i have to hard wire it to the brake lights.

It has to be tapped into the truck's stop lamp circuit, not the trailer feed..
