Default PIAA 510 fog lights

I picked up a set of lights for pretty cheap off Amazon because I wanted to replace the factory look of my fog lights like I've seen some members do for their bumpers. The removal and fab part looks pretty easy. My question is with the wiring...can I just snip the factory plug off the truck and wire the positive and negative wires to their lights?? Or do I need to follow the directions and install them like PIAA says?

To me if there are 2 wires off the truck and 2 wires off the light the simple solution would be a wire nut and they still operate off the fog light control in the truck. I wouldn't need to run all the extra wires like the diagram say. Anyone does this mod to their truck or have a solution? Thanks

This is the route I'd go with first. Be sure to leave enough wire on the end of the factory connector that you're cutting off so that you can reattach it if need be.

The only problem I can think of that you might run into is voltage draw. If those fog lights are substantially more powerful than the stock fog lights, it might begin to pop fuses. In that case, I'd use the wiring that PIAA supplied.

I read their website and did some internet searches...says the PIAA lights pull 12 volts. I wouldn't think the OEM lights would pull much more than that.

12 volts is the volts it's rated for but you have a much bigger amp draw with the aftermarket lights since our fog lights are about 30-35 watts and I'm guessing the PIAAs are about 55-75 watts so you have a bigger load on the circuit than it was designed for. When they have been running for a little bit and if the fuse didn't blow just feel the wires to make sure they aren't getting warm. If they feel normal you're good.
