Malfunctioning Morimoto relay
Anyone else have issues with their relay harness from Morimoto? Was driving 65mph the other night with my family when it malfunctioned. Lights shut off and I almost crashed. Pretty damn pissed.
I have the OEM HIDs. Got home and checked connections and realized the lights were flickering on and off when I would move the wires coming out of the relay. Set up is less than a year old and everything was secured.

Went through 3 of those harnesses in less than a year. Took out the oem hid's and went back to halogens... might not have been able to see as well, but at least I knew the headlights would work.

Ugh, not what I wanted to hear. Was hoping this was a fluke. Wife is not going to be happy about me pulling all that stuff off after spending all that money. :/ I guess it's better to be safe though.

The Morimoto relay is quite possibly the weakest point of that harness. The good news is that the relays are 100% interchangeable from harness to harness, soooooo buy the cheapest harness they have on the site (last I checked it was $25) and keep a spare in the truck. Good insurance and relatively inexpensive considering your investment on the HIDs.

I went through this back in July. Try checking where the harness plugs into factory h13 pigtail on the passenger's side. The morimoto harness on that connection has no weatherpacking and allows moisture in. When I checked that connection, all the connectors on both the male morimoto pigtail and female factory harness pigtails were corroded. Cleaning them up, applying a liberal amount of dielectric grease, and wrapping the connection in electrical tape has seemed to temporarily fix the issue.
When I upgrade my HID's here soon I'm probably gonna relocate the relay and cut the factory pigtail and morimoto pigtail off and solder them together and use some heat-shrink tubing, electrical tape, and split loom and never look back.

Mine failed last night, was 3 years old. I had a spare in the truck in case this happened and luckily I was only doing 35mph. My LED fog lights were enough to get me to a safe spot to change it out in a parking lot.
