Let the fun begin - My 2012 King Ranch Retrofit + Planned step by step
December 8, 2014 I purchased a new to me 2012 F150 King Ranch with the 3.5 EcoBoost motor. The truck had 47k on it but is freaking IMMACULATE. The previous owner took great care of the truck...
I initially test drove it in early November and the only thing I didn't like was NO HID and The older Sync with Voice Activated Nav. Well, since purchase I've grown to love the sync but hate no HID..
"Penny" with the factory halogens: They just look so out of place....
Cost tally: $1115.20 as of 2/12/2015
Parts in my posession:
2013 OEM Headlights from PartsbrokersLLC on Ebay
EvoX-R Projectors from TRS
H13 MotoControl Harness from TRS
OSRAM 66240 CBI's from TRS
XB55 Ballasts from TRS
D2S Igniters from TRS
90mm Rubber boots from TRS (won't be used, too big)
XB LED Halo - F150 HID-Spec C-Bar for DRL's
Butyl Sealant
Purchased and waiting for:
OEM Ballast block off plates from Joseph http://www.projectoretrofits.com/
OEM Rubber Boots
Need to purchase:
Goretex patches for additional vent hole
Primer
Golden Bronze Metallic Paint
Clear Coat
Plans are to PTM the insides of the housings and let them sit for a few weeks to offgas. I'll also be doing some light tuning to the EvoX-R's and possibly passive demon eyes in either red, bronze, or amber color. (I like the thought of red though.)
Also... I plan to document this EXTENSIVELY with tips/tricks/etc since there are so many threads on the subject. There is a TON of information for doing retro's on halogen lights but I've only found scattered info on OEM lights.
Retro starts next weekend... I need to build a nice work bench in my garage first.

I also want to file down some of the protrusions and possibly add a foreground limiter

Idea for the tuning and demon eyes came from this thread:

If I don't like the CBI's i'll keep them as backup and get nightbreakers.
I'm also deciding on if I want to do active demon eyes. There's enough room in the back of the housing that I could remove them with hemostats if the need replaced, but not sure I want to wire up another wire to go to it. I plan to make this look as clean and OEM as possible with wiring and everything.

You're doing exactly what I want to do to my headlights minus the demon eyes, so I'll be following this religiously.

Foglights are for the foreground anyway.
Also as a note... The planned step by step and extreme documentation isn't to take business away from people like Bil and Dawson, but to help those who are patient and ballsy enough to try this on their own but wan't all the resources in one place.

Althought NOT related to HID's the wiring for everything will be done at the same time
Today I ordered F150Lifts Aluminum Framed Grill Light Kit
https://www.f150forum.com/f38/f150li...ht-kit-289181/
I don't want the C-Bar's to be on with parking lights. I want them to be on whenever the engine is running whether by remote start or key. The Raptor lights will be powered off of the OEM Parking light circuit though... I'll be taking pins out of the factory fuse/relay locations and splicing into it there for the OEM look. I do NOT want to use ANY crimp style connectors. If I can't solder/Heat shrink it, or make it look 100% OEM then it won't be finished or hooked up until I can!!!!
Tonight I'll be baking open the housings. Tomorrow I'm going to NAPA to get the Martin Senour paint necessary to paint the housings.
