Why don't you guys just have your OEM lights tinted? Should only cost you maybe $50 at a local tint shop (which is probably a bare minimum cost to work on a truck, it's not a lot of tint being used).

This way you don't need to replace the housings with "possibly sketchy" housings you find on eBay.

I was looking at Lamin-X, actually. Same thing and it offers protection, but read somewhere that they could cause damage to headlights over time.
And thanks for your email reply, but the way. You guys appear to be on top of your game.

Anyhoo, I am quickly reminded how poor the OEM lighting is, plus I miss the smoked look. So instead of the more complicated HID conversions, I was gonna go with LEDs. However, first I need a new set of smoked lenses. Does anybody have any recommendations one way or another on smoked lenses? Ebay has some relatively cheap ones ($109 available, shown below).

Appreciate your help!

I just installed and removed the smoked ones you showed. They are distributed by Spyder, but not mfr'd by them. One was fine, the other one had a bad adjuster. It looks like the adjuster hdwr is cheap, import pot-metal and failed. They were plenty bright, but I couldn't angle them down together, to really see if the pattern changed. I'm sending them back, and ordering different lamps.

Nice looking lenses, and blotches weren't as noticeable when the lights were turned off, but these are going back for a return. Maybe I'll try the other vendor and not end up with a set with similar blotches. Some pics for reference, using stock halogen bulbs. Look closely at the second pic and you can see how the blotches almost appear as thought there is moisture inside these, and this was straight out of the box:

the pair I returned from AutoLightPros (distributed by Spyder) had the exact same kind of smudges inside, too.

Different vendor, but surely sounds like the same product! I'm leaning towards a set of lamin-x gun smoke for $60, then add the LED's. Like 4x4LED's said, why rely on crappy housings? I had a different set of "projector's" that were aftermarket which fogged up on the 2nd car wash. too much trouble, will stick with FoMoCo OEM's.

I'm in the same boat. I wanted to see what kind of output I could get from the led kit and I'm thinking the smoked lenses are making the output look a lot dimmer than they should. I just ordered a set of OEM raptor headlights (halogen with the black trim), so I'll put the kit into those and I'm betting the output will almost double.

Didn't you just unload a set of HID retrofitted halogens? Was that output not what you were after?

I did. Amazing output on the ones I just sold. I have three sets of headlights sitting in my garage. I'm looking for something very specific (mostly LED headlight bulbs) and I'm trying out different versions of headlights to get there. Trial and error.

So my goal is LED headlights. I've tried the D3S and D2S LED versions and they didn't fit. The D2S was on two pairs of retrofits, and I've tried D3S on OEM HID buckets and aftermarket HID buckets that were meant for the factory D3S bulbs. No dice on any of them. I know the kit I have now from 4X4truckleds will fit into the OEM halogen model headlight buckets, so I'll see how the output is. My bet is that it'll be what I'm looking for. I'll know later today after I get home and install them.

disco were you the guy who tried our D1/D2/D3/D4 bulbs in your Ford projectors? Someone told us they had issues with the wiring and what not. In our sample light we got the bulb to fit but we had no other wiring as it was from a junked car.

We had another person with a Mercedes have similar issues. He got the bulb to fit but the damn wiring was crazy as anything... he could not figure it out.

There are 2 wires coming off that basically have to get spliced into something... WHAT we don't know yet.
