So, I've recently bought and installed a set of OEM HIDs into my STX, complete with the harness from TRS. While they are a vast improvement over stock, they look like garbage compared to my wife's Audi. The cut-off is wavy and fuzzy, and the output compared to hers is mediocre at best. Being that the option for good, quality aftermarket bulbs and ballasts is pretty much non-existent, I am now considering opening them up and installing a set of EvoX-R projectors. On top of that, I know that even aftermarket bulbs and ballasts wont fix the cut-off.

I already know I will need new bulbs and ballasts (thinking about the D2S Morimoto 5Five and 55W XB35 4300k bulbs). I will need to fab something up to cover my current ballast openings. My question is regarding the harness. I already have a harness for OEM HIDs. Can I use that harness, with a different plug, to control the new system? If so, what would I need to do to have a plug to control the ballasts as well as a plug to control the bi-xenon solenoid on the projector? I am trying to avoid buying a new harness as well, but I suppose I can sell my current harness to offset that cost.

Both Joeseph and ProjectoRetrofits.com and Billinvic Retrofits have block off plates for the stock ballast holes.

You need a new harness. Sell the old one.

On to another topic, does anyone know if there is a direct replacement clear lens for the oem projectors? This would be a much cheaper solution that could met good results if available.

Not that I know of.

It also doesnt fix the bad design of the cutoff shield on the stock projector.

If you already have it all out, I wouldn't even bother with messing with the stock projector. Unbolt and bolt in the EvoX-R.

I have seen a slight modification to the cut off shield that the before and after photos show a drastic improvement in the cutoff. Apparently there is a tab that sticks up just away from the shield that can be bent down and out of the way. When I get back to my computer, I'll find and post a link to the thread with photos of how to do it and the before/after output.

I would gladly drop in EvoX-R projectors, but as mentioned above, I don't want to drop that kind of coin right now. I think clear lenses and the modification to the cutoff shield could dramatically improve the output, for a fraction of the cost, the such a lens exists and is readily available.

Oh I've seen the link too, and agree it does help a lot. But opening them all the way up to make that small mod seems pointless to me.

If I have them all the way apart, I'm just going to pull the stock projectors and put the vastly superior ones in.

Probably going to do mine later this year and try to add some accent painting to mine.

Again, I agree in principle, but I'm looking to avoid spending the money. I justified buying these to my wife because of the horrible stock lights. I don't think I can justify spending another $500 or so to upgrade my upgrades. That, and I really done want to spend that much either, especially if I can upgrade them for significantly less.

I realize that it won't give me the kind of performance I could get from the evo projectors. I really do get that. I'm just specifically looking for information other than that answer.
