How do you remove the reflector from the 09-13 housing?

How do you remove the headlight reflector from the 09-13 housing?
I've searched and searched on three forums and have gotten a mixed bag of "just pull", "drill through the housing", and "leave them in place".
Can one of you who have some experience with retrofits tell me the best way to remove the reflector "bowl" from the housing. I've pulled about as hard as I am willing to pull on the ball joints and they don't move. I can take the torx out of the one on top. Do you drill a hole through the housing to get to the bottom one or do you pull/pry? I've seen pics of broken reflectors using the pull method.
