Tail Lights! Which wire is for stop/tail and turn signal?!?
I want to add amber signals to my rear tail lights, and am curious how I determine which wire is for the turn signal, and which is for the tail lights/brake light? I know it's one bulb for both, but I'd like to splice into the wire that's used for the turn signal so I may add my amber directionals.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Well, the most obvious is with a multimeter, or twelve volt test light. You will need to pull your tail light out and pull the bulb out of the socket. Then use the meter to determine which terminals are stop and flash. I do believe we have the standard socket on the left. It looks like the two terminals on the left are negative. The two terminals on the right side of the socket, one will be brake, one will be flash. Turn on your flashers, Put the negative probe of the meter on the negative terminal (left), and probe the two right terminals one at a time to see which terminal causes the meter to "flash". Someone else may know for sure. But this may help in the meantime.

Here's the answer, based on this diagram posted by DylanCulbreth:

Before you cut into any wiring on your truck, you should invest in a test light and confirm what the interwebs are telling you. No offense to anyone on here, but you don't know who you're taking advise from, general guidance is fine but it's good practice to take 30 seconds to check for yourself before cutting anything. A test light is cheap and anyone doing wiring on their truck should own one in my opinion. Cheap insurance.
