These headlights have a pretty weak internal gimbal for mounting the projectors and they shake with road vibrations and impacts so keep that in mind. You can see I did my best to strengthen the adjusters but they still shake. The REAL solution would be to design a new gimbal but the rabbit hole goes deep.

As for the LEDs, yes the diffuser pops out and the LED boards which are mounted from the backside can be removed. There are 8-9 boards with SMDs which comprise the DRL, not sure they specs on it, I didn't really look but I can guarantee they are cheap Chinese LEDs.

No doubt they are cheap LEDs. Was looking to see if it would be possible to mount some switchbacks in there.

That is absolutely possible.

So... is this just a "check this out" thread or are there a price on these?

I am just sharing the project.

Generally speaking trucks guys seem to be in the dark when it comes to proper light output so I am showing this example as a potential solution.

Well that was rude.......Trust me, before you joined the forum, there have been plenty of threads of proper headlight upgrades and retrofit how to's. You aren't some lighting pioneer by any means. I'm just generally speaking though.

I didn't mean for that to be offensive, sorry if you took it that way. Trucks relative to other vehicles are usually the ones which have illegal and dangerous headlight setups whether that is from the owner adopting the F-it attitude or through lack of knowledge on what adequate and safe lighting entails. Trucks also have a higher light projection height which magnifies the glare and danger.

There are long threads and group buys for LED bulbs and 9/10 times LED bulbs will offer worse performance than the stock headlight. Automotive lighting is complex and just because a light is "brighter" (often misleading figure) or has a whiter/bluer color doesn't make it better.

I never claimed to be a pioneer, far from it actually since my methodology is to reverse engineer and optimize things as opposed to revolutionize.

I wouldn't disagree that some car and truck owners need education about LED/HID technologies pros and cons, as well as the consequences of using P'N'P kits. That's where experienced members can be helpful and educate us with data and examples.

I wouldn't agree though that ignorance is a truck thing. So many cars with hids in halogen housings on the road. Many truck guys coming from older trucks are amazed with LED output because they compare to older halogen setup.

This is my first truck and all my previous vehicles either had OEM HID or were professionally retrofitted. I've seen better or worse outputs, aftermarket and OEM, so have a baseline to compare: Ford stock halogens are garbage.

Your feedback with side by side comparison, for example, will be very helpful and enhance the F150 community knowledge. We need more independent reviews as some vendors here just bash every product that they don't sell.
