Post Jon_To's Full Int/Ext F150 2009+ LED Swap Guide

This is an informative write up on how to swap out the following lights on your 2009+ F150. This package is EXCLUSIVE from Jon_To and can be as upgraded to anything you can imagine. I went with what I've dubbed "The Works" package from this company. It is every interior and exterior light (not incl. head/tails) they offer upgraded to the best products they currently have. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and this is no exception.

Interior:
LED Supreme Package w/ All Upgrades (3 Light interior) Includes
2 x T10/T15 5-LED Wedge 5050 LED White (Map Light)
1 x 42mm 8-LED Festoon 5050 LED White (Dome Light)
Upgraded Map Lights/Dome Light to our 42mm 12-LED 5050 Panel White

Exterior:
1 x T10/T15 5-LED Wedge 5050 LED White (Cargo Light)
2 x T10/T15 5-LED Wedge 5050 LED White (License Plate Light)
2x 3rd Brake Light Stop Lights
3156- (2011 F150 Rear Stop/Turn Bulb #'s) Upgraded LEDs x 2 (4 Bulbs total)
2x Resistor (1 per side to prevent hyper flash)

Hope this can help some people out. My electrical knowledge is about as expansive as installing some speakers, so almost none. ALL my LED conversion bulbs are from forum member Jon_To. Best prices I've seen for the highest quality bulbs. Also i placed my order on Monday and got everything on Friday morning. Please check out his thread and PM him for a quote.

Here is what i like to call the Hangover 3 (because without these 3 things you will end up working all night and not feeling so hot the next day)

Tools: Small pry bar, i plasti dipped one side of mine
LED Bulbs from Jon_To
Small amount of electrical tape

Time: 25 minutes
Beer Scale: 2 Beers Time

Tips: UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Install:
Incase you missed the above notes UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY!!!!
Now we can move forward amicably. Thanks to Jon_To and his vendors this install is about as straight forward as it gets. Grab the edge of the lights from the FRONT (closest to the engine) for both the Map and Dome lights. Be sure to use caution when doing so and use common sense. If you feel like you have hit a snag then stop, find a different angle and see if you can fit the pry bar in the trouble spot. Take a look at the pictures i have attached with this and you can find out where the pry points will be that have clips on them. I chose on my own to completely remove the housing holding the controls for the lights and the moon roof. It helped me to be able to move things around freely. You could honestly complete this without taking out the whole housing and just taking off the metal reflectors Ford attempted to use in an effort to make their crappy bulbs seem to have decent light output. While you might not believe me now, just wait till you see the stupid bright output on these lights.

Like i said, throw away the cheap tin foil piece that is used as a reflector. Once you remove the plastic light cover then you can simply grab the bulbs and pull straight down. Once you do so replace the OEM wedge bulbs with the wedge inputs attached to your LED's. They come pre attached from Jon_To and are a huge help. Pull out the pins just a little to make it a tighter fit when you plug the wedge in the socket on your truck. Be sure to push in the pins surrounding it once in, and make a tight connection. Once you have all 3 installed you can now temporarily connect the negative end of the battery. If you dont see certain lights on then pull them out and switch the direction you put them in. You might have to play around with the light just a little to get it to light up steadily.

These (first pic) are the pins im referring to on the previous post. Pulling them out a little before you push them in gives the wedge a little more traction and really helps with making a constant connection. Also pictured is just some reference shots incase you want to make your "plan of attack" before actually ripping anything out. I put in one last pic of the light out put in the dome light and a pic of the fronts installed as well.

Last but not least are some finished pictures of what it looks like when i got done. I am beyond impressed with how much work Jon has put into these so that even someone like me could install them. This is also my first write up on anything so please, if you feel i may have glaringly overlooked something please let me know or if it was ok and you might even stay tuned for the others this weekend i would appreciate that as well.

Next i did the easiest LED swaps ever. Short and sweet installs with almost no tools and very little effort involved so here we go. First up is some stock light output shots of exterior OEM Lights.

As always when doing ANYTHING involving the electrical system please unplug the negative cable from the battery.

Next up was swapping out the bulbs i got from Jon_To on my 3rd brake light.

Tools: Screw Driver, Rustoleum Clear Primer, Rustoleum Lens Tint

Time: Should of been 2 hours (including drying time) actually took me 3 hours.
Beers: 4 ish?
Tips: DO NOT TRY AND SEPARATE THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT FROM THE LENS, otherwise you get to try and re-attach the piece you brake off like i did.

I got off to a really bad start because i thought i could smoke the lens by heating it up with a heat gun and detaching the lens from the backing. This was not the case for me. I heated it up for a while being really careful to make sure it was a steady heat all the way around. Then i got my pry tool out and as soon as i gave it a little pressure, CRACK, I felt like such a moron. So now i had to fix my mistake and press on. The actual swap out of the bulbs is super easy. Pull out the old ones, straight out, and put the new ones from Jon_To right in. After you put all three in, go back, re attach the neg cable, and go test out your lights. If at any point you have a light that doesn't work, simply take it out, turn it around and put it back in. Also note that the center stop light will NOT illuminate unless you depress the brake pedal. Easy way to test it is hop in your truck and hit the brake and see if it lights up.

Here is a couple more pics of the third brake light. The LED's are so bright i was able to lay down a few light coats of Tuxedo Black Metallic to match my truck paint. I PTM after 2 coats of tint, 4 coats of clear, then 2 very light coats of Ford Paint: UH, and sealed it with 4 more coats of clear. Up next is the license plate bulbs. This upgrade makes a HUGE difference IMO because of the amount of time these lights are used and how important they are.

Tools: N/A

Time: 5 min

Tips: Use a black gasket maker around the edge of your third brake light in order to protect your investment

When installing your license plate kit simply lie down on your back under the bumper and follow the wire up to the housing on either side of the license plate where your lights are. Its another very simple install, simply turn the housing and pull out the light bulb. Replace the bulb and put it back in the bumper. Cant even think of anything else to add on that. Hit the unlock button on your keys once you re-connect the negative side of the battery and as always if a light doesn't work, turn it around in the socket.

Last but not least was the reverse light swap. These lights help me so much with parking im already looking for way to mount more of them under my truck in order to light up the ground off to the sides of my truck.

Tools: Ratchet to take off the tail lights.

Time: 10 minutes

Tips: Search the forum on tail light removal techniques. This can be frustrating if it is your first time taking them out.

When you go to remove your tail lights pull down your tail gate, remove the two screws on the top and bottom and then pull straight back away from the truck to get them out. Stand directly behind your truck and pull back towards you in order to pull them out properly and DO NOT try and pull them away from the side of the truck even if it looks like thats how it will come out. Give the lights a little wiggle if they are really stuck and once again use common sense and dont break the placement pins. Your reverse lights are the light housing's in the center of the light and can be replaced with bulb # 4075 which Jon_To offers and upgraded version of. Simply twist out the housing, pull the old bulbs out and plug the new ones in. Once again Jon_To has done all the work so all you need is about 10 minutes free. Then pop in your lights and get ready to blind everyone if you are backing into a spot
