Cargo light circuit (for lighting in topper/canopy)
#11
BUMP.
Can anybody help me locate a circuit that's hot when the cargo light is on? I want to use the cargo light circuit to run a light inside my canopy. I could fish a wire down from the cargo light but there may be a better location?

Didn't click the links, but here's what I found. I needed a feed for my bed lights that would come on when I unlock the truck, or would be on when the door was open, etc. In the driver's side door sill, there is a purple wire of a fairly small gauge. Tap that one, and you'll be good to go. (It even fades up and down with the interior lights)
This worked on my 2012 SCREW Platinum.

Havok I'm anxious to see which wire you locate, please take pics when you find it.
Turning the bed lights off/on with my cabin light switch seemed like the right way to do it until considering there are times that I don't want to show everyone in the parking lot how many tools are in my (tinted glass) canopy. Maybe will have another switch to defeat that at tailgate area. Now its starting to look like a 3-way switch.
1) light turns on/off with cabin switch
2) light anytime
Or just having a dedicated circuit. I would like that it can't be "left on". Also there are tiny LEDs (1/5 watt) that put out a lot of light. Not sure what size the battery is but a 60AH battery can run 1/5 watt LED for 300 hours = 12 days.
Very interested what others have done.

Right now my entire bed perimeter, minus tailgate, is lined with SDM waterproof light strip. I have that wired to a toggle that is powered by a 8 cell AA battery pack. It is all plug-n-play. Switch mounted under the bed rail with Velcro. Battery pack located in the swing box tray. Works great, but I want the functionality to operate it from inside the cab as well. I may play around with a 1 way diode to wire both in parallel, basically like a 3 way switch with different power sources.
