Luckily here in Maryland , you are only required to get an inspection when you initially buy or tag a new vehicle. But my cop friend told
Me HIDs are fine as long as the lights look white or bright white-ish. A slight blue/ purple tint is ok but pink and green are not. And it is just another reason for the fuzz to pull you over. So be careful if you're doing things you shouldn't be at night.

I run the 15000 kelvin temp color, but it is somewhat dim on dark roads at night as the 15000k are bluish in color. I'm gonna switch to an 8000k or 6000k H1 bulb in my projectors to get more vision at night and keep the fuzz off my back. Just make sure you use a 35w kit and not a 55w kit as it has been known to melt housings and factory wiring because of the High heat and amperage.
Good luck you'll love the HIDs. Easy to install too ! Ballast will fit right behind the housings.

What constitutes a reflector housing? I have hids now that are super bright white. They look like I'm driving with high beams on but work great. I have the factory housing but what housing should I use to tone it down a bit?

Then all the good light will be aimed properly and not reflecting up like high beams blinding other drivers. And there are some really cool looking projector housings on the market.
Here is a pic of what I did. 15000k in pic.
But now running 8000k for a brighter white color with less blue tint.
