Just check out backup cameras. Very little to chose from in my area but the lowdown is the ones that are cost about $200 and are junk. If I'm going to spend that much I don't want it fogging up with a little rain. I think I'll go with the lights. I have to drive a grave/dirt road to get to the highway and the rear bumper collects mud, now, rain, etc and I know the lights will stand up to that.

Mount some floodlights on your house and set them on a timer! When I had a telephone pole and a guy wire blocking the view from my window, I paid the electric company $500 to bury the cable and take down the pole. Money well spent!

If our power company charged only $500 to remove the pole and bury the line it would have been down years ago but they tell me the transformer has to be fairly close to the house. The next pole is 200' up the driveway. I have automatic lights on the house but they just seem to worsen the situation. Ah well, more cold weather again; too cold to work without a garage. (please excuse the typos. With the new keyboard. It seems I'm constantly correcting my typing because of the flatter design and do miss some)

You can look into purchasing a led tailgate strip with reverse lights integrated into it.. they are bright as mess and give your truck a cooler sleeker look and they don't get in the way at all... I had the same problem and now I can see a lot clearer

I'll look in to those. The biggest problem with bumper lights or lower is they wind up covered with snow. The snow whips up off the load and loads the rear bumber. It sets hard and won't just brush off.

Bumper lights.

Needed:
1 relay
Wire 12 or 14 gauge
1 set small "driving lights"
Electrical tape
Screwdriver, wire cutters, strippers
Soldering iron and heatshrink tubing or standard plastic connectors and crimpers

Simple write-up:
Run the nice heavier gauge wire (14 or 12 - I ran a 14) with a fuse on it right at the battery to the back of the truck. Take out one of your taillights and splice into it the reverse light harness for your "signal wire" for the relay. Mount the lights and attach 1 of each of the outputs from the relay to one each of the lights, ground everything properly and done. The lights will only come on when you shift into reverse - you can also wire then to activate with a switch in the cabin.

My truck - the driver side one is loose and hanging funny - need to re-tighten the bolt:

Try to envision MustangAndy's truck with about a foot of hardened snow. The license plate are is full as well. I need something almost as high as the tailgate handle. Maybe I'll just bolt the lights on the headache rack to the top of the tailgate. (laughing). They are already wired to a rocker switch. Too friggin' cold to do anything anyway. Nasty wind to boot.
