backup lights, which way to go?

Thanks... I'm actually a photographer as well (jack of all trades) so I'll make sure I keep the camera in the same spot with the same manual settings when I take some photos. I'll also take some from the rear so you can see how they look from about 20' away

I have a 2012 lariat, 4x4, 4 door in oxford white, which LED bulbs would be better than the stock?

You have 912 bulbs, which is equiv. to the 194 bulbs. While you can replace them I'll be honest, the only thing you'll notice is it'll be a cleaner white. You may not achieve any added brightness. The reverse bulb your year truck uses is a very small bulb. It's mainly designed to alert other drivers you are in reverse, NOT designed to light up the road behind you. On the 2015+ trucks they use a bigger bulb, throwing more light output.

That is the bulb you can try, but again, you won't notice any noticeable difference in light output, other than having a cleaner look for those behind you. For the earlier model trucks I recommend an actual flood light kit.

Bulb prices
floater the real way to go are LED lights that turn on... the easy way to go are the LED bulbs. The LED bulbs DO help a bit and are DEFINITELY better than your stock lights. I find they do a pretty good job lighting up the road when I back up. Where I live, we have lots of lights so the LED bulbs are great for me. I MAY upgrade later to the full-blown LED kits but for now, I like the LED bulbs. Cheap enough to do and VERY easy.
You DO NOT need a resistor pack for the reverse lights. Load resistors are only needed on the front turn signals and the rear turn signals/brakes.
If you let me know the year of your truck I can help you find the right style bulb. I sell them but there are many other sites on the net you can find them as well. Typically I find people buy complete LED kits (reverse lights, rear tail/brake lights, license plate lights and front indicator lights). That's what I did, one of the first things I did.
