Default 2014 F150 FX-R retrofit

I will be using this thread to document my retrofit build. I'm putting FX-R projectors in some cheap Amazon FX4 housings. Here are the specs for my build:

FX-R 3.0 3" projectors
XB35 35 watt ballasts
Morimoto XB 5500k D2S bulbs
Apollo 1.0 shrouds (kinda second guessing these)
Cheapo Amazon FX4 housings

Anyway, I haven't gotten my projector kit yet, though I should get it in the next couple days. I did, however, receive my housings today. I did a test fit to compare them to the factory originals and was happy with the fitment. I was also happy about the very soft butyl that these things were assembled with. I feel like I could probably separate these things at room temperature. No wonder the reviews had complaints about condensation...

Here are a couple pictures from the test fit:

The only spot where they don't fit perfectly is along the top of the bumper

But the stock headlight doesn't fit that well either...

Overall, I'm happy with the way these lights look. Hopefully by the end of next weekend I'll have these things done.

Just got the notification that my projector kit will be arriving Monday. Naturally, I'm leaving early that morning for a work trip...

Im going to follow this. I had oem hids, and am tired of the morimoto harness failures Ive suffered and am now considering going this route. Id buy those housings as well and reseal with butyl.

I'm doing the same set up you are. I have my buckets painted and cured. I'm just looking for a day or so where the temp is good that it isn't 100 mph winds or raining. Can't wait to knock these out. I've been to this point for about a month and a half.

Most of my parts came in today. I have projectors, ballasts, shrouds, bulbs, and the housing caps. No harness or butyl yet. Hopefully those come on soon, but for now I can work on mounting and aligning my projectors. I'm also probably gonna paint part of the Apollo shrouds, just need to figure out how I want them. I'll post a couple ideas tomorrow.

Got the lights apart today. They came apart fairly easily. I only had to bake these for 5 minutes at 250°. I ran out of time today, so I only got to take the lights apart. Tomorrow I'll start cutting the buckets and wire something up for testing and aligning the projectors.

I think all my future retrofits will be done in these housings. They were definitely easy to take apart. The only other headlights I've taken apart were the ones on my 04 crown Vic. They were not quite as easy as these.

My OEM's took about 30 minutes in the oven at 200*. Then again I took them out about 5 times to test, but eventually got them apart.
