2010 f150 h.i.d.
Folks....tried to install an H.I.D. headlight kit along with a set of aftermarket projectors. What happens is the H.I.D. comes on for about 1/2 a second, then shuts off. If I plug in the halogen bulb back in, the halogen bulb works fine. So, I installed an inline capacitor for the HID to fool the on-board system into thinking its 55 watts at the end...but that didn't work either. The HID still turns off after 1/2 a second. I'm hoping the capacitor is bad, but I'm not convinced it is. Any ideas on how to make it work?
Thx,
Glenn

Thanks....I thought about a relay, but how do you fool the CPU into thinking everything is fine at the end of the circuit?

I'll give the relay a try. I have a relay kit for an H4 bulb, but I can use it to experiment.
Does the same go with the fog lights? This truck has fog lights and the customer is thinking of going HID in the fogs too. I did read somewhere out there that HID in fogs screwed up the high beams...not sure why that would happen. So....I'll give the low beam HID a try first with a relay kit....then try the fogs.
Thx,
Glenn

If you google the relay you'll see pics of how to construct one. I didn't put a relay on my fogs and they work fine. I had the same problem with my headlights but once I installed the relay they worked fine.

With the H4 relay all you have to do is change the way it plugs into the stock harness and your good or you can just t-tap the stock harness and that will work fine.

Thanks to Haber120, I was able to rig my relay harness to work with the HID kit. Yes, the bulbs stayed on all the time too. I took it off since it wasn't the correct relay kit for the truck. Once I get the correct one, I'll install it permanently.
Thanks again!
