Default '02 F-150 Headlight upgrade?

We have an 2002, F-150 Supercrew Lariat FX4. I'm looking at upgrading the headlights to the blue light hallogen or HID. Being new to this, I have a couple simple, basic questions.
Is there a difference between the hallogen lights and the HID lights or is this simply different terminology for the same thing? What am I looking at as for upgrading? From some of the other threads I understand that its not just a matter of changing out the bulbs, but the housings and installing a ballast as well.
Thanks for all the info.
From a Newbie.

2 totally separate things. HID's is a different bulb, adding a ballasts, and a relay for some wiring to the battery. If you want a good breakdown for you, search this section for a writeup I did on an install. Night and day diff. between the lights.

Thanks. I'm looking for the install thread you mentioned. I guess all that is left is to shop around and find a pair that will work. Does the kit come with just the "bulbs" and wiring or does it also include new housings? I have the stock, hazy/fogged over lens and it would seem this would not be the best for the HID's.
Thanks again.

I know what you mean, my 01 had horrible lenses. Um there are kits you can find on ebay and possibly elsewhere that will be a headlight HID/halo kit but most are just the HID kits (bulbs, ballasts, wiring, relay if Bi-Xenon"Hi-Lo")

I ended up putting in a pair of knock off Harley lenses. Not that my headights where fogy, they were to reflective and the Harley style ones don't have all that chrome in them. The look great now.
