Yes Another One of These
So I bought my 16 XLT FX4 SCREW 157" wheelbase with the Max Trailer Tow package back in June for a specific reason. In the next year or 2, my OL and I would like to get a Toy Hauler. Now I have read several threads here saying don't do it, some say you'll be alright, but more opinions are always better right? We looked at a few this weekend, we are leaning toward a 27' Stealth trailer, we also looked at 23' and 25' trailers.
On to #'s, the 27 had a load sticker of 6987# dry, GVWR at 9999 with a tongue weight of 1005. The 23 and 25 are within 800#'s of the 27 in dry weight and GVWR is almost exactly the same. Tongue weights vary from 936 on the 25 to 1075 on the 23. We like the 27 for the floor plan and room for us and the kids.
Now for the truck, door sticker shows 1845 cargo capacity, which I have been reading here already has 150 lbs subtracted for a driver, which added back in makes it 1995, I wish I was that light again. So between me, my wife, the kids and maybe the dogs, we are around 690. With those #'s, it leaves me 1205 for everything else, tongue and any other cargo.
For most trips, the trailer will probably be around 8500#, will be less if I don't take my Harley, which is the reason we are looking at TH's and not TT's. We will very rarely take water, as most places will have it there or close by.
So in summary this is what we are dealing with.
16 F150 3.5EB 3.55EL Screw 6.5' FX4 Max trailer tow
Cargo = 1,995
Towing=11,600
GVWR= 7,050
Stealth WA2715
Dry Weight= 6,987
GVWR= 9,999 (will probably never see that much)
TW= 908-1299 depending on load (spec says 1005)
Yes, I know many of you are saying shoulda got a 250, thanks. Is this realistic with a 150 or should I be looking at either A) smaller trailers or B) getting a motorcycle trailer and staying in hotels. I know there are going to be limitations and MPG is going to suck, I'm not going to be hauling this thing half way across the country on the regular. Most trips will probably be 150-400 mile one way.
Will definitely be using a WDH and possibly adding Air Lift 5000 Ultimate bags.
Thanks and I appreciate your inputs.

it looks to me like you will probably be right at your Payload limit.
you have about 1200 after your family is loaded. minus 100# for WDH you get 1100# if you don't haul anything else in the truck.... that gives you a trailer weight of 8461#... SO you MIGHT be ok. but barely.

That's what I was thinking too. If the dogs stay home, that's another 75#'s and if I take my to the gym like I need to, we can free up some extra weight. I know it will be near limits, but I think its within reason, we aren't talking 5-600 over.

Well...what do you plan to take in the truck? Have you added any accessories?
Cooler? 80#+
Gadgets? 10#+
Books, mags, maps? 10#+
There's a possible 100# of stuff.
Are your kids still growing? How much weight could they gain?
Any possibility you could be pulling the trailer with another couple adult friends instead of the kids?
Sounds like you've got time to figure all this out. And maybe find a way to lighten the load on the truck.
Also, your Harley is what, 7-800# loaded behind the trailer axles. Would be a good idea to see how the TH is balanced with a bike in the back. The typical 13% Tongue weight could be off by +/- 5%
Just a few things to consider as you plan.

Most everything would be in the trailer. The kids are 8 & 12, but me and the missus are trying to shrink. Most of our adult friends have campers or THs already, so most likely no more adults.
No accessories added to the truck or plans to do so. So inside would just be small snacks and maybe some iPads so figure maybe another 50#.
My Road Glide is about 850 ready to go. Nice thing about the Stealth we looked at is the garage is all the up to the fridge, so I could in reality get the bike over and centered on the acles of the trailer.
And I appreciate the things to ponder.

Nice....I'm on a '92 Softail at the moment. But I'm hoping to move up to a Road King in another year or so. Probably after my new truck is paid off.
I'm too young for a fairing just yet LMAO
And mu GF refuses to be a passenger...She rides a Yamaha Vstar 1100. But she misses her Night Train.

I know the feeling of paying stuff off. Wish I could have paid this off before I bought my truck.
As for being old, I'm only 34. The Glide isn't bad around town, but a 3-500 mile day is great. I would love to have my Dyna back or a Softail for short days or cruising. And my OL is much happier on the back.
