Getting the 20' 6 spoke aluminum rims.

I will do lt tires, livernois tune, and airbags.

If all else fails I've still got my 2012 gmc 3500 dually that I already know tows it good, I towed twice with it last year.. If I have to use that the wife will just have to follow behind me in her car... But from everyone I've talked to on here I think it'll tow just fine.

Thanks for everyone's input this forum is great!
why did you decide not to add the HD payload package also?

Prolly 'cause it's not available in the FX package.

Because I really wanted an fx4. Can only get HD in XLT or Lariat.

Yes, it's a bummer that Ford has decided to limit the HD payload package to certain truck lines. Also the website and brochure that came out earlier this year are wrong according Ford headquarters. You can only get the 2620# payload with the 5.0L engine not the 3.5L Ecoboost. The Ecoboost is only rated to 2000# with the HD payload package and the Lariat drops down to 1660# with the same package. Doesn't state that according to the website or the brochure, but the Ford rep was quick to tell me different and sent me a link to the correct figures. The towing brochure is only meant to be a "generalized reference" and that the specifics for each truck will be on the truck's door pillar sticker. I told him that this could be very misleading for someone trying to order a truck thinking that they would be getting something only to be disappointed when the truck came in and it was not correct. His answer was "when you order the truck that the dealership who orders it for you should be able to tell you exactly what you will get". Wrong! My dealership didn't even know what package to order to get the HD payload. He kept trying to order just the Max Tow and said that it should come with both until I showed him different. Also a bummer that you can't get the rearview camera or chrome with the HD package on the XLT.

Wet and loaded weight about 9,000 pounds with hitch weight about 1,080 pounds. Nice trailer. For an F-250 tow vehicle. Or for an F-150 with the HD Payload pkg. But your F-150 without the HD Payload pkg and with 20" tires is going to be overloaded.

The F-150 Lariat trim and HD Payload pkg (including max tow pkg which includes towing mirrors and brake controller) is available with 4x4 drivetrain. So even nicer than the high-level FX4. Not available with those silly 20" wheels, but you don't want those anyway on a tow vehicle.

So you chose style over substance. You did good by doing the research before you commited, but then you ignored the preponderance of advice to get the HD payload pkg or else graduate to an F-250. So you're probably going to be overloaded when wet and loaded on the road. Sad.

But from everyone I've talked to on here I think it'll tow just fine.
The EcoBoost engine is enough to pull the 9,000 pound trailer just fine. You're problem will be the weight you can haul without being overloaded. Your truck has to haul that 1,080 pounds of hitch weight. With a GVWR of 7,700 pounds, that leaves 6,620 pounds for the weight of the wet and loaded truck - including driver, passengers, pets, tools, jacks, full tank of gas, and the ball mount for the WD hitch. It's possible, but not likely.

The Lariat might be a "step up" over the fx4 to you? Sure... To me it obviously is not. I don't care for the looks of the lariat. Ive got an xlt now with chrome package which is essentially the lariat. I want painted bumpers.

EcoboostKev is a forum member and hes got the same exact truck without the tow package and he HAS THE SILLY LOOKING 20's. He has MORE hitch weight and MORE PASSENGER weight but has 0000000 problems. Ive talked to him through PM and hes happy with his truck and how it tows.

The bottom line is this truck is 95% DD and 5% TV. The final decision I had to make was do I want to ride around in a stiff 3/4 ton or HD 1/2 ton 95% of the time to have a great tow vehicle 5% of the time...or do I want a Great DD for 95% of the time with a GOOD tow vehicle for 5% of the time.

I appreciate your input and I know you've got tons of experience towing and I know you are right that im going to be close on payload. But im confident this truck will suit me best for my situation, and not make it unsafe for towing.

As I said earlier, IF this truck happens to be AWFUL for towing I still have my 1ton dually that I know will tow the camper fine. So what do I have to lose by getting a truck that will be awesome for everyday driving and quite possibly will be fine for towing?
