towing tt with Goodyear SRA with 114 load index
Hi i have the 2013 max tow ecoboost with 3.73 gears and 18 inch. wheels. i was wondering if replacing the tires which are load indexed at 114 with a load index of 116 would remove the squishy feeling when towing. My trailer is a lance 2285 the trailer weighs less than 5000 lbs. and loaded maybe 5500. i don't want e tires and the c tires are indexed lower than the Goodyear SRA. research shows that the e tires are rough and heavy so my mpg would suffer. I have found two tires with the 116 index so far, Cooper ATP and Continental lx20 any thought would be apreciated. i have learned so much on this forum that is why i opted for the xlt supercrew 4x4 max tow. The 4wd option has paid off because of the 36 gallon tank requiring less stops at gas stations while towing and getting 9 mpg in TX hill country and 70mph speeds.

Don't waste your money with the load index change. If you really want to get rid of the squishyness (and it is real), go to an LT tire; preferably Load Range C. You don't need LR E so don't let anyone talk you into that. They are unnecessary on your truck and would result in ride and fuel mileage penalties above and beyond that of LR C. LR C WILL reduce your mileage slightly and you will feel some additional ride penalty.
If you tow a lot, it is definitely worth the change.

OP....not quite sure why you have a squishy ride while pulling. I have the 3:73's & 18" tires and pull a 8k+TT. Air up your tires to 40-45psi, and set your WDH correctly....you should have no problems. Then invest in some air boots and enjoy the pull .

My truck was subject to "chucking" (up and down motion at the rear) with P metric tires. That pretty much disappeared with the LTs. You will still, of course, get some chucking on some of the nasty concrete roads/freeways.
The sidewalls bulge with P-metrics. You won't see that with LTs. Those bulgy sidewalls flex while you are towing resulting in up and down motion.
I've also noticed that the front tires don't wear the outside edge from cornering with LTs. And the truck handles better.

thanks for the replies. I will try maxing out to 44 psi. My wdh is an equalizer and is set up properly. I think when it comes time to replace tires I will go with LT c tires. The c tires are the option available from Ford. Thanks again.
