Default Travel trailer weight concerns

Our current travel trailer is 30ft with one slide and gross is 7,600lbs. It was our first camper and we chose a floor plan that offered considerable room and privacy in the bathroom. We've realized over the 3+ years that we've had it that we want that space from the bathroom in the living area where more time is actually spent.

We looked at campers yesterday and found one that we really really like. Its 38ft, 3 slides and it's gvwr is 11,297!! Dry weight is 8,495lbs and there is 132 gallons worth of tanks. We never "rough it" so we never tow with anything in the tanks so I know for sure we'd be spared at least 1,000lbs by not hauling fluids in the tanks. So I'm pretty confident that I wouldn't be exceeding 10,500lbs total weight.

I've never weighed our cargo but it's just my wife and I. Occasionally we have our two teenage nieces along. Couple of bicycles, yeti cooler, portable dump tote, 4 camping chairs, leveling blocks, wheel chocks, sewer hoses, water hoses, misc tools and what not, oh and a 21lb dog and 8lb cat. I know I'll probably be surprised by how much it adds up to but it still can't be that much.

My truck has max tow package and is rated for 11,500lbs. I know I will be towing at least 10,000lbs and I'm looking for feedback from those with experience towing this much and/or that long, 38ft. We haven't pulled the trigger yet on the coach but we really like it and want to but I'm just leery of the weight. We probably go camping 10-12 times a year, traveling on average 4-6 hours away. We're in South GA so no mountains outside of maybe a trip or two to Athens to UGA games and one trip to North GA mountains. So largely just flat terrain towing.

So fire away.....

Payload? Sticker on door.

When this thread fills up with all the questions and answers, I suspect the result will be:

- You are WAY over Payload

- Too long for F-150

X2. WAY too long. You might be exceeding the 1,150 lbs for the hitch as well.

payload on my truck is 2,060. Am I correct in assuming that you simply subtract the hitch weight from the payload number and whats left is what is available for all other cargo in truck?

sticker on hitch says max trailer weight = 12,100 and max tongue weight = 1,210. I'd be under both.

2060 is the max payload available on a manufactured 3.5 Screw with 3.55. 4x4. That would only be with an XL with no options. With all the options of a platinum, your payload is probably nearer 1450. What does the yellow sticker in the door frame of your driver's door state that the maximum weight of all passengers and cargo is?

+1 to "way too long" and I suspect you're going to be pushing it for weight as well.
