I am in that group, as well. I haven't seen any trans temps that warrant the need for a larger cooler. I simply threw it out there that a larger factory one exists and is an easy upgrade, if so desired.

It appears to me that some people are over thinking this. The purpose of increasing the cooling capacity isn't to lower operating temps, it's to keep whatever is being cooled from overheating at load.

I get it, but OP hasn't overheated with the original cooler.

Agreed. The trans thermostat determines the operating temp set point. Cooling capacity will keep it at, or near, that temperature by limiting its ability to rise under load or other factors, i.e. ambient temp.

Great topic. Considering doing this on my 2011 F150 5.0 3.73. Tow a 7300# travel trailer in the mountains of Utah and have seen trans temp. get close to 230 on 2 or 3 occasions on long hard pulls in the summer heat. Is the consensus if I am going to upgrade the cooler to add the 7L1Z7A095B rather than adding a second in line cooler? How much improvement in heat under load does anybody think is realistic (5-10 degrees?)? I know 50% was mentioned in regards to the 4 vs 6 rows.

But bigger might help it when climbing mountains.

Yesterday I installed the bigger direct fit transmission cooler part number 7L1Z7A095B from TASCA shipped to my front door for $95.61. The whole swap took 5 minutes, remove and replace the two hoses, unsnap the old cooler and resnap the new cooler in. I tow a big trailer and on hot summer days I would see trans temp between 195 and 215, hoping now that I don't see above 200. I think 96 bucks is worth the piece of mind knowing I have done something to help the tranny stay cooler.
