TRANS and Gear change
ok i have a 1994 f150 4x4 5.0 liter 5spd masda trans 3.55 gears...this has a tow limit of 3500 LBS. The same truck with an automatic trans can tow 7200 lbs. Can I just swap out to this Automatic tranny and have this capablity?
the rear end is an H9 3.55 gears rated capacity as 3800 lbs an D5 rear end with 4.10 gears has a rated capacty of 7400 lbs. Same question here?
trying to tow a trailer rated that a 1/2 ton truck can pull it...4600 lbs....but as you can see my trucks current set up it exceeds that
thank you all....all thoughts are very wlecome

Get rid of the truck. You are talking about swapping in an AOD tranny with no computer, changing transfer case, changing trans support, changing exhaust, possibly changing drive shaft, the starter may have clearance issues and now changing rear end which will probably require a drive shaft and re-gearing the front to match. Not to mention the AOD may not bolt up to the 5.0. You must really like this truck.
If it was me I'd just use the manual trans and when it blows put in a heavy duty replacement with a heavy duty clutch..

As Boulevard indicated, that's because of the clutch, not the tranny. And yeah, you'll spend a small fortune retrofitting that 22-year-old pickup. Not worth it. See if anyone makes a heavy duty replacement clutch for that rig.
If not, then your best bet would be to buy a truck that has the GVWR and GCWR you need to get the job done. If you really like the old '94, then don't trade it in. It's not worth much, so keep it as a runabout and buy a newer truck with the payload capacity and towing capability you need. A used 2004 F-150 with automagic tranny will probably cost lest that the cost of retrofitting the old '94.
