He said I don't know I been using the Eco Boost for the last 2 years for pulling the Back hoe for his business fixing sewer tanks and what have you..I asked him how it pulled and he said it pulls fine you know its back their but never had any problem and also with his crew of 5...And one of the guys was a big boy he made a crew of 2 himself......Anyways I asked him about the Pay load and he smiled and said WHATS That? I just hook up the goose neck and the boys and go to work...
That is nuts!! If the backhoe is the size of a 416B/C Cat. I have seen 3/4 ton trucks pull them on Gooseneck trailers before but not 1/2 ton trucks. I am glad he is up there and not where I live. I am not being the weight police because I know I have ran overloaded before and most likely still do with my 5er on my truck. I will say the fact he has been pulling the back hoe for 2 years like that now says alot for the EB and Ford.

Yea you have to under stand in Wy where I live I would get nailed quick by the fuzz, But here in North Dakota where the oil boom is driving hard the fuzz seem to just shy away...They focus on the big rig movers,,,,I asked the dude if he has ever got stoped and he said,,Yea last year 1 time because his lite was out on the goose neck...He said he never asked about the wt. CRAZY

By the way the Back Hoe was a CASE 580C

I was going to post that many states do not have towing/GVW laws that the guy is breaking but I did find a reference that ND limits GVW to the manufacturer's stated weight.

A lot of states do not have that restriction for example, here in Maine from what I can tell, the GVW limit is 80,000 lb, the per axle limit is 22,400 lb. (also, the max towing speed is 55 MPH...interesting because I know on friday I can look out the window of my office and watch trucks pulling campers going past at 75-80mph all day long).

NY limits to 800 lb per inch of tire width.

(those numbers are according to this site: http://towingworld.com/towinglaws.cfm )

One other thing...I'm not condoning being over the manufacturer's nameplate, just pointing out that in many cases, no law is being broken if you are...

Understand. Here where I live DOT will leave you alone unless you are running DOT #s. I did a quick look on the specs of the 580C and I saw the weight was from 12500 to 14000. I cannot say much I have had 10000 behind a Ranger 4.0 V6 4x4 on a tag trailer before once. It pulled it fine and stopped it but I would not want to do it every day. I was hauling two full pallets of Salt.
