Default Trailer Build Thread

Picked up an old homebuilt trailer for free to get ready for the move down south.
It's a 6x10' single axle flatbed with tilt. Going to redo just about everything on it. Need new decking, wiring, lights, tires, and hitch.

Going to use 2x8 T&G planks for decking, should be good and watertight afterwards. Will use galvanized carriage bolts with nylocs to bolt it down and liquid nails or something to glue the planks together.

I read up on wiring the signal lights and think I'll do something unique. The front running light can be wired (Running - Ground) to function as parking light only, or (Running - Turn Signal) to act as a ground interrupt turn signal. Basically shuts the light off when the turn signal comes on. I'll then wire a second light underneath it as (Turn Signal - Ground) so they'll flash alternately.

Got the ammo box drilled and ready to mount, holes for new shackles as well.

Figuring out the paint now. I know the pattern, just stuck between green, dark green or blue.
Here's green.

What do you think, Blue or Green???

Got the decking. Mocked up with 6 footers.

PM when you're done and I'll send you my address, you can ship it my way

Keep us posted, I'm thinking of doing something like that... I need a trailer 3-4 times a year for 900lbs max (pallet is too high / heavy to unload from the bed by hand), don't feel like spending $2k on it!

Thanks. Picking up the decking and lights today.

Hitch is rated to 5000lbs, Tires were Trailer C rated, around 1400 each, I figure it'll have a GWR of about 4,000lbs when I'm done. I hope the trailer stays under 1,000 empty.

I always wondered how to do the inverse turn signal, thanks. I think you'll end up around 850 - 900 lbs. when its done.

Haven't pulled the bearings yet, wanted to get all the time consuming stuff done first. It's a homebuilt trailer, so the axle is just square tubing. I'll get the bearing serial numbers and cross-reference the weight ratings.

I myself just bought a rear end off a buddy of mine, in the hopes of building a trailer. I had recently put a hitch on my truck, pulled a trailer with it, and kinda got really interested in exploring towing a little more. So I'm building a trailer out of some angle iron that I haven't gotten around to using.

Yours is lookin' cool.
