Trading in the Eco next week on a F350 6.2L
After much number crunching and a trip to the scale, I realize my f150 is not enough truck for our new camper (Jayco Eagle 314BDS) with a dry weight of #8000. Don't get me wrong the engine I think is strong enough but I just ran out of payload. After weighting in I found that I only had a little over 200 lbs to play with till I hit my GVWR while my truck way empty and I was the only one in the truck. I love the truck but when towing an 8000lb plus camper and not having the HD payload package, payload gets eaten up quick. A part of me thought I maybe ok but I don't want to take any chances with my family. I think the numbers are there for a reason, from a marketing standpoint you would think ford would put the highest numbers they could on the truck for bragging rights against the competition and still be safe. So my father-in-laws dealership is goin to pick up my 2012 f350 Lariat crew short bed gas at another dealer Monday morning and hopefully pick it up one day next week. Hopefully start camping here soon and not ever have to worry about what I put inside or in the bed of a truck with a payload @3800lbs.

I've thought of doing the same thing if I ever replace my '09 and for the same reason, payload. I would LOVE to hear what you think of the truck, it's power, comfort, mileage. I only have experience with the 5.4 but I think the 6.2 would feel much more powerful compared to the 5.4. I've checked 1 or 2 superduty forums and there just isn't much feedback on the gas motor. I hope you keep us informed.

Question
Do you mean after adding the tongue weight of the loaded wet trailer and the weight of the empty truck with you in it, you are 200 lbs under the GVWR? I'm trying to figure all of this out for myself, wanting to get a small TT that I can pull safely.

I had a Keystone Passport 300bh that was just under 6000lbs and it was perfect for the truck. I would try to stay under 7000 to have wiggle room.

No but I used to have a chevy 2500 gas and a Duramax, knowing I would like the diesel better I just can't see the extra expense of the newer diesels.
