Just curious, if changing the gear ratio would have any bearing on his GVWR? From his posts, I dont believe he has a max tow pkg but I'm sure I have read where a truck with a max tow pkg gets a increase in GVWR going from 3.55 to 3.73....

Don't think so.

Just looking at the brochure, going from 3.31 to 3.55 will increase his tow capacity by 1400# to 9500# (SCabs don't get much higher with a 5L than that), and the GCWR will increase by 1400# too.

But there's only one GVWR entry for his 4x2 SCab 5L 145" WB, and that's 7100#.

Cool Tow weight

I do not have the MAX tow but do have the tow package and 7100# package. Just looking to get that extra 1400# back that I had on my 2010 F150.

Default tow weight

Well we settled on the Keystone Premier 30REPR and it is under the gross weight even if I was to load it to its max. Appreciate everyone's help and sharing of knowledge and experience.

Question TV GVW Increase

OK, well I settled my tow weight problem, went to a lighter trailer, however how do I, or can I, increase the GVW of my F150 which is currently at 7100#? What is the difference between the HD or MAX Tow packages and the 7100# package that came with my truck? Not looking for a lot (500# more) but am running close to the 7100# GVW right now and wondering what is the difference?

Technically you can't unless you spend big bucks at a certified upfitter. No matter what you do, your sticker stays the same.

Mechanically- add a leaf, change to LT rims and rubber, better shocks, etc. Not a silver bullet though. Close is close. If you are only close, I wouldn't bother spending the money to fix it. Once you start bouncing over by a chunk it's a good investment. Not the "technically correct" answer though. I see reports on here of some members being WAY over GVWR with no issues on stock setups without max tow. Doesn't mean it's correct, but it does mean that it happens. Few hundred over, I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep on the stock components.

No can do at a cost you would consider reasonable. The best way - probably the easiest and least expensive - is to jack it up and run a heavier-duty pickup under it.

You can mask the effects of overloading by installing air bags in the rear suspension. And you can increase ride and handling with premium shocks and maybe upgraded springs.

If you get close to the weight capacity of your tires, you can change out the tires to the ones that come on the F-150 with HD Payload package - LT245/75R17E:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=yes&tab=Specs

Those tires will require custom 17" wheels with weight capacity of at least 3,200 pounds to match the new tires. And note they require wheels 6.5" to 7.5" wide, and most custom wheels for F-150s will be wider than that. Here's one that meets the spec:
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

You could also go with a load range E tires on 18" wheels if your truck came with 18" wheels. However, you would probably still be required to upgrade the wheels to meet the 3,525 pounds weight capacity of tires size LT265/70R18E. The 18" tires on my F-150 are rated for only 2,271 pounds max, so the wheels are probably rated for 2,500 pounds or less. That's why you need new wheels if you upgrade tires to load range E.

What is the difference between the HD or MAX Tow packages and the 7100# package that came with my truck?
Max tow, I don't know about suspension, but it has the regular trailer tow pkg as well as the tow mirrors and integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC) and around 500 pounds more GVWR than your regular F-150. But HD payload pkg is a different truck. It includes high capacity 17" 7-lug wheels, HD shocks, upgraded springs, radiator, and auxiliary tranny cooler, 9.75" rear end, 3.73 limited slip axle, and 17" load range E tires.

. I also have 3.31 gears. I have an 09 4 x4 with a 5.4. I just purchased a 24' tt. It's fine on the inter state with no problems. I will be taking it over a 5000' pass in two weeks. If it's working to hard I will be installing 3.73 gears in it. The only thing I'm concerned about is the trans getting hot.

Easiest way to get more payload is to trade up to a F250 6.2L. It would be much less expensive than changing out axles and suspension besides the loss of warranty.
