LOL I get 8 MPG pulling a 6X12 Enclosed, AND the same pulling my new 28' Coleman 274BH. Its not the weight, its the wind resistance! Of course the smaller trailer is being pulled at 70+ and the big guy is at 65. I also have 3:15 rear gears so lots of time in 5th gear too.

I just towed a 5800lb GVR trailer in Colorado with my 2.7L (Tow Package) and got 12.1 MPG (200 miles)

Just got back from a trip and we were running late and got 7.2 mpg running at 72mph towing 28ft 8000 lb travel trailer. On the same route, I usually get between 9.4 and 10.2 mpg, depending on wind, running at 62 mph (100 km/h) which is highway speed limit in Canada. Getting 7.2 mpg made me feel a lot better about 9.5 to 10 mpg towing on the next trip.

That is right in there. You are hauling a barn door down the road.

I've done 3 trips towing our 26ft, 5500lbish TT since picking up my 3.5L boosty back in may. Seems 10-11 is my average. Although on the way up to Idaho I had some headwind most of the time and I got 7... But I'm not cursing the truck like I did with my Ram while towing, so I'm happy.

I've only done 1 towing trip thus far. Pulled an open 5x9 trailer with my 700# motorcycle on it and a 300# toolbox in the bed. Cruising at 62mph across the flat farmland I got 19mpg(a drop from 22 without the trailer) per the Lie-o-Meter (hand calcs came up with 18.6mpg)

Once I got to the hills it dropped to 16mpg(compared to 21mpg when empty)...

Power wise, I couldn't even tell it was back there. The 5.0L with 3.55 gears had no trouble with the light trailer....I was in T/H the whole trip.

Hoping to haul my tractor home through the hills in a few weeks. That'll be a good test. It weighs closer to 7000#

Its more the wind resistance than the weight. My 6X12 enclosed weighs less than 2000# with my planes in it, and my TT weighs over 6000#, and both get me about the same MPG. I think the TT is more aerodynamic than the enclosed V nose trailer. Could also be my topper breaks the wind easier over the TT than the V nose for less drag.

I just drove a 300 mile trip from Southern California to the Eastern Sierras with my 5,500 loaded 19 foot TT. I averaged 10.1 mpg. This truck has more power and wanted to drive 70 and no issues for lack of power climbing grades. Setting the cruise control at 60 the lie o meter went up to 10.5. Pulling a large brick behind your truck to the OP you are spot on. I am looking to see some slight improvement since the truck only has 1900 miles on it but I am happy. No sway issues either but I usually tow 55-60

My son in laws boat that weighs close to 9K pounds with 300 gallons of fuel...I pulled it Monday about 60 miles and only got about 8 mpg @ 55 mph tops. He usually pulls it with his F-250 and gets 12 to 14 mpg @ 60 mph with the 6.7 diesel...handles much better too.
