The 2000 F-150 with 5.4L engine is rated to tow over 5,000 pounds provided nothing is in the truck but a skinny driver and maybe one passenger. If you have more people or stuff to haul, then make a second trip.
Your main concern will be transmission temp. If the F-150 doesn't have a trans temp gauge, then baby the rig on the road. When cruising, keep the speed up to over 50 MPH so the tranny cooler will have lots of air flowing through it. If climbing a steep grade, manually downshift to keep the engine RPM up around 5,000 RPM. That will make the engine fan pull a lot of air through the front grill of the pickup, thus making the tranny cooler more efficient.
If you don't even have the factory tranny cooler that comes with the factory towing pkg, then install one before you leave home.
And good luck.
