towing a 6k car/trailer

What's the trailer length? If you have enough length, you have the ability to tweak tongue weight. I went with an 18ft flat bed and I've got enough room to get the loading I want and it tows it just fine.

you 'can' tweak tongue weight by moving the vehicle forward or back, but at 6k pds, you're still over the pull rating without a wdh and having less than 10% tongue weigh can bring sway so at 6k you'd want a minimum of 600 pds tongue which is over there too.

Frankly I don’t get why folks are so hesitant to use a WDH. Many seem to see it as an unnecessary “requirement” and try to justify why they don’t need it. “Do I have to use a WDH”, “Can I get away without it”..??!!
I’m telling you, a WDH is a valuable benefit to your towing experience. You want to have a WDH hitch for heavier loads. It will help level your tow vehicle, distribute the heavy load of the tongue weight, make for a safer and more stable towing experience, and help your truck handle the loads of towing. These are all pro’s not cons. The only downside is a couple hundred bucks in cost and a few extra minutes added to your hitch-up routine. Don't look at it as a negative down side of towing, approach it as an opportunity to make your truck more capable, and who doesn't like another toy/accessory for the truck in the first place

this is all they look at... and then their grandfather, uncle, dad, neighbor,... pulled something bigger with their 1/2 ton without a WDH and no one died and nothing broke. (that time) and they discribed the towing experience as "you couldn't even tell it was there"

My 83 year old father said this EXACT same thing to me today.

And to play devils advocate .....why do some worry so much....and way over think simple things.
Don't run red lights, use your cell phone, properly maintain your vehicle, learn good driving skills....way more important IMO than any wdh for a measly 6k trailer.
People too stupid to even do basics of maintenance like topping the washer fluid up regularly so it doesn't run out.....those types shoukd have their license revoked.
Maintain your damn vehicles!!!!!!!!

well i took the trailer out last night for a 250 mile trip. i installed my 2" rear block to give a little rake and also installed the timbrens to help with the weight. i must say that i was impressed with the trip. no sway or loose steering and the truck had plenty of power. is it my ideal set up, of course not. will it do the job the 1 or 2 times a year i need it to, yes. here are a couple pics
