Towing
I have a 05 F150 supercab with the 4.6. I bought it used and not sure if it has a tow package. On the shifter it just has a on off for the overdrive. Should there be a tow switch?

Tow Package
Somewhere on this site is a place to put in your VIN and find out what came on your truck. That said, if you have a tow package you will have a receiver and electrical plug in in the rear.

Look up the instruction manual for your truck and read it thoroughly it has a lot of good pointers.

Overdrive use is fine when on flat road as long as the truck is not searching for the right gear. In the hills and or if driving into a headwind (and searching) shut off overdrive.
The 4.6 is not a powerhouse but will tow a good load. You may want to consider a tuner (mine is Edge Evo and made considerable difference in power and shifts).

It didn't come with a receiver hitch. It does look like it has a transmission cooler and oil cooler. When did the trucks start coming with hitches? My 86 had the tow package and came with the with wiring harness in a box and no hitch.

Don't know what year it started. My 2000 had the tow package that included the wiring and the receiver. Same with my 2004.

Found out it doesn't have the tow package and looks like I'll have to get rid of it. I need it to be able to pull a horse trailer. What stinks its paid for next month
