Default Can I Tow Trailer with 2.7 EB?

Shopping for a New F150 truck: l will haul a 3200 pound bumper pull RV 10% of the time on BC highways and Forestry Roads on vacation. Using 5,000# towing as my criteria. Rest of the time it's just a commuter vehicle for this senior! Do I need larger than the 2.7 EB?

For this purpose the 2.7 should be just fine as long as you insist on the 2.7 payload package.

2.7 will pull it with ease. Get 3,55 or 3,73 axles tho

Yes. Plenty of power and torque to tow a 5k wet and loaded trailer over the hills and in the mountains. But you'll probably exceed the payload capacity of the stock F-150 when wet and loaded for camping if you don't get the 2.7L EcoBoost Payload pkg (option code 622). That payload pkg requires the regular trailer tow pkg (order option code 53A) and includes the 3.73 E-Locker axle. The 53A towing pkg includes an auxiliary tranny oil cooler which you need to prevent tranny meltdown when towing more than a rowboat.

So do as Velosprout suggested and insist on the 2.7L payload pkg and you'll probably be a happy camper.

My 2016, 2.7 does just fine pulling a 5,000 camper all over the country....and that's with the 3.31 locker rear. However, that's on public roads. Forestry roads can be challenging pulling two tons of trailer and I have no experience going off road pulling a load. I agree with above posts that you should look into the tow package. But if the question is does the 2.7 EB have the genital fortitude to tow your trailer the answer is an unequivocal yes. Then you can expect 22-24 mpg when just commuting.
