Default Towing

How much has everyone towed? Gas mileage while towing? Any modifications on the suspension or engine? Just seeing what everyone is getting out of their truck. I tow my race car on an open trailer, only about 5500 pounds plus everything else so about 6000 total. Got about 14mpg. Only thing is a flowmaster. Has anyone seen mpg gains from cold air, tuners, etc while towing?

I would say 14 mpg is pretty good for towing.... Cold air intake wouldnt help mpg's unless your factory one is just that dirty, the programers can help mpgs a little bit but normally you have your foot stuck in it all the time from the extra power so you lose mpgs! lol

i tow a small single-axle 6x10' cargo trailer with nothing but dirt bikes, some 5 gallons of drinking water and two 6v batteries (for lights) inside and i only get 11.2 MPG. of course, i have to go over a mountain pass (in both directions) to get to most motocross tracks so the ascent accounts for more fuel... but i always figured it was a wash with the downhills helping to average-out consumption. that's primarily running on E85 (which i use completely each time so as not to leave it sitting in the system). 87 octane seems to produce about 12 mpg.

if anyone out there has seen towing MPG improvement from their mods, i'm all ears!

like broncof250444 said, cold air didn't really help mileage but throttle response up hills and when I got on it with the trailer is greatly improved. Last time I towed I was chasing an ecoboost so I was beating the snot out of the truck at 75-85 at times and got 11.5ish 6000 pounds

I tow a travel trailer about 6000lbs plus a tool 600 lb toolbox in the bed. 2012 f150 eco 4x4 3:55 gears, super springs 750lb helper springs, banks exhaust, lifted 2.5 inches on 285/70/17 tires. I get about 7 to 9 mpg towing

I'm close to Allen.
I tow a 7200# Travel Trailer with a 2012 F150 FX2 Ecoboost and 3:31s.
We get 9-10 towing (flat in Houston).
No mods - truck is stock.
