Default F 250 vs F 150 Price

I am looking at both vehicles and wondering which would be a better purchase.
Because of the discounts the F 250 diesel cost is not significantly more expensive then the F150 Lariet with ecobooster, max tow and HD.

They are within 2000 of each which way should I go?

Thanks

Which one do you need more? Do you tow every day? do you tow more than 10,000lbs. Do you need the longer available wheel base the 250 offers. Do you want better ride quality? Better mpgs? Do you like the thought of 14qt oil changes? Or using urea?

many things to think about?

Depends on the max weight of your trailer. If the most trailer you would ever tie onto is a bumper pull TT that has a GVWR less than about 8,000 pounds, the maxed out F-150 is all you'll ever need. But if you're even thinking about a trailer with a GVWR more than about 8,000 pounds, or a fifth-wheel or goosneck trailer, get the diesel.

Realize that if you might want to "customize" your truck with different wheels, nobody makes replacement wheels for the 7-lug wheels on the F-150 with HD Payload Pkg. Lots of folks make replacement wheels for the 8-lug wheels on the F-250 and F-350 SRW.

And speaking of the F-350 SRW, if your trailer is a fifth wheel or gooseneck with a GVWR more than about 8,000 pounds, then pay the few extra bucks to get the F-350 SRW instead of the F-250. The reason is payload capacity for hitch weight. The F-250 has a GVWR of 10,000 pounds, and the F-350 SRW hs a GVWR of 11,500. Big difference for a few bucks, and you won't be nearly as likely to overload the F-350 SRW.

Notice I had an F-250 diesel for over 11 years. Wonderful truck. But when it was time for a new truck, my needs had changed and my heaviest trailer now has a GVWR of 7,000 pounds. So my new ride is an F-150 EcoBoost.

If you compare apples to apples, I suspect the diesel will cost you a lot more than the maxed-out EcoBoost. I'll do a quick check on Edmunds and holler back.

On Edit:
Per Edmunds.com,
2012 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x2 with 6.5' bed
Max tow
HD Payload (includes 3.73 LS axle)
3.5L EcoBoost engine
freight
incentives
--------
$36,177 cash buying price not including TT&L

2012 F-250 Lariat CrewCab 4x2 with 6.8' bed
Diesel engine
e-lock axle
incentives
-------------
$45,604 cash buying price not including TT&L
========

That's $9,427 difference for a 2012 model off the lot. Edmunds doesn't show the 2013 models yet. That's about the difference when I was pricing Fords before I ordered my 2012 last fall. I put a lot more options on mine than the stripper models with almost no options shown above, but the ones above are apples to apples.

If you don't actually need the big superduty, I'd say get the f-150. cost of ownership will add up after the purchase. If the f150 can do what you need the truck to do, get that. now if you tow more than 11,000 lbs and/or do alot of heavy work with the truck, you may want the superduty. sure superduties are nice, but there is really no point to owning one if an f150 is enough for you.

if you need a superduty, get one. if an f150 is enough for you, I'd say get an f150 .

I want to thank every one who responded to my questions regarding a new TV. After much consideration I went with a new F250 Diesel 4x4 crew cab lariat with a 156" wheelbase. IMG_0181.JPG
