Beware though, Spectra is kind of pricey but well worth the $$.
Does it float as well? I know most marine rope is usually less dense than water which could be helpful in mud.

Look up Amsteel blue. It's an amazing synthetic. Their 3/4" rope can hold a 12 wheeled John Deere 9400 in place when they hooked it to an old half buried dozer.

You have to know what type of pulling you are going to do. Chains and cables are for no slack and pure power pulling. NO SLAPPING at all. Straps, especially stretchy ones are for having slack and getting a run at it for the truck pulling. That way you can pull out a heavier vehicle with a lighter one (or one really stuck). Choose your weapon carefully. We always put something (jacket/wet towels/ another strap/chain) over the middle of any chain/strap setup to keep it low incase it breaks.

Easy way to get stretch. Buy two straps. And an old tire. Put the tire in the middle of the two. It will provide more than enough slack when pulling.

I am leaning toward a recovery strap just for ease of storage and light weight. I like the idea of having a little stretch to it for pulling people out of a snowy ditch.

Exactly, and chain doesn't stretch so when it breaks it doesn't have the elastic band effect of a strap

I don't like straps for that exact reason. Elasticity isn't a good thing when a truck of the same size is stuck. You realize energy is lost through the strap when it stretches, thus making a negative effect.

Yeah, I always thought I'd be safe with 40000 pound strap... Till we snapped 4 trying to get my truck out, mind you that was with two 1 ton diesels on MT's tied to my truck lol

I haven't ever had any problems with strap and i get stuck alot.. Hell this weekend i pulled a stock jeep with stock A/T's over a 10' tall snow bank cause he decieded to jump it and then get stuck on the other side. 2 tugs and i had him up and over no problem. But once again try out both get a chain and get a strap go wheeling get stuck or have your buddy get stuck and pull him out with each one and see what you like best.

I use rope. Polysteel they call it around here. Pulled out lots of full-size rigs and even lent it out to be used to pull out 1 tons. I've even used to to ****** a stuck tractor. This rope is used a lot in the marine industry around here for it's strength.
