No one is allowed near either one of our vehicles with a chain EVER. Straps only.

A strap is easier to store and safer to use. No brainer.

^^^^^ soo true buck. i won't let anybody around my truck with a chain. I made that mistake one time when i was driving a gm product. I buried my S-10 blazer and my friend with an older range rover tried to pull me out with a chain. his eye on front of his range broke off when he tugged me and the chain slapped the back of my blazer and the hook came thru the back window and hit the drivers side head rest. Talk about a close call. A chain will never touch my vehicles again.

Chains don't stretch like a strap does tho, we broke a 40k strap pulling my old f150 out, blew apart my grill, ****ed my rad, put a 1.5 foot dent across my hood, and broke my headlight out... Never assume you are safe with fabric straps, I used to think that too till I watched a fabric strap put a hole right through a tailgate

ya but the chances of a strap putting a hole or dent is a lot less than it is with a chain. If the chain breaks you are 100% sure that its about to cost you alot of money.

A good dozen chain won't break under any light truck circumstances. I've seen 150k d11's pull out 777 haulers with 1/2 -3/4 chains

Eh, maybe doubled over a couple times. I wouldn't trust. Wouldn't really hurt either piece of equipment though so it's whatever.

ya but once again it going to be a pain in the *** to put a chain that big in and out of your truck. Tow straps weight is a whole lot less then a chain with about the same pull strength. but i guess in the end it is your personal preference on what you want to use.

When you live in a coal mining community, straps are relatively useless. Any knick or scare and they are a liability. You run over a strap with a dozer and it's useless. They can dry rot and the are limited on how you hook them up. Chains are harden, forged, or even stainless steel infused with greater amounts of carbon. The reason they aren't used all the time is because of the weight. A 30 ft 3/4 chain would weigh in at alot more than you or I.

You're totally right. I read 3/4 and was thinking of normal log chains. Derp!

If you can find a line called Spectra I would use that. I race sailboats and we use that line because it has close to zero stretch, doesn't snap back if it does break, and is stronger than wire of the same diameter. Thats what I will be keeping in the tool box of my truck along with a trailer hitch with a shackle instead of a ball on it for the reason of pulling people out along trails, among other reasons.

Beware though, Spectra is kind of pricey but well worth the $$.
