Not applicable. That law applies only to maintenance parts and fluids. Ford cannot require you to use the Ford brand of oil filter, air filter, motor oil, ATF, diff lube, etc. They can require you to use parts and fluids that meet certain specs, but not a particular brand name.

But that has nothing to do with a trailer towing package. Nobody said you have to use Ford parts to upgrade your truck to have the equivalent of the Ford regular towing package. You must have receiver and wiring harness, but you can buy those from etrailer.com. You need to add the oil-to-air tranny cooler, but any brand of heat exchanger will do. So Moss Magnusson is a red herring.

Just sent off an email to Dodge about the old 2500 I bought last summer inquiring on the build sheet for the truck. Someone on another forum said they would email you a build sheet and low and behold they actually did. Was very helpful and neat to have, wasn't in a 'window sticker' sorta options list just a long list of codes and there short explanation. Has anyone inquired if Ford will do this sort of thing to help some of us out on exactly what options were factory installed?

The best way is to believe it or not, go to the ford european site there's a way that you get a 4 page list of every option /delete etc for your vehicle, we did it for my wife's Escape, and my F150. http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

You rock! Now if I can navigate and find more than just a short summary. I think I have the list for my '08 somewhere already but I'm really interested to look up 'ol blue ('the '98 RC).

EDIT...click the arrow dummy...got it now.

I guess my '98 is an XLT even tho it doesn't have the badging...

Maybe I missed it but this link should be a sticky for us. Now if I could just find an old ins. card for the '91 I sold a few years ago.

My '98 has the standard payload/suspension package but does have the Heavy Duty trailer towing package.
My '08 has the standard payload/suspension package but does have the Heavy Duty trailer towing, HD Dual front shock absorbers, heavy duty rear shock absorbers, Super Engine Cooling System, Heavy Duty Aux Trans Oil Cooler. Confirms my worthless open rear end too.

What is a Immersion Heater Engine? My '98 has one/it, my '08 does not.

What do you intend on towing. It seems like all of the comments are geared to you towing thousands of lbs. Like a massive rv or 30+ ft boat.

Certain add ons would be a waste of money if they are overkill..
( like an Aux cooler if you're only towing a jet ski or a small pop up. )
