Default Tow mirrors

I just bought a 2014 F-150 supercab that has regular mirrors...I am contemplating updating them to tow mirrors. Has anyone tried this? Is it something I can do on my own? Factory mirrors or aftermarket? Thanks in advance for your replies

You can do it on your own. There are many threads on this if you search.

Yes. The OEM mirrors say dealer install only, but any idiot that can change a flat tire can R&R the tow mirrors. The trick is finding that screw in the bottom of the arm rest door pull. Wiring is plug and play unless your OEM tow mirrors include features that were not included in your stock mirrors.

Factory mirrors or aftermarket?
I chose OEM, ordered from the Accessories.Ford catalog.

Part number DL3Z-17698-BA includes manual folding/manual telescoping tow mirrors with power glass, heated glass, turn signals, and puddle lamps. MSRP is $440 for the pair. Just a tiny bit of negotiation with your Ford dealer should get the price down to less than $400 for the pair. I think I paid about $380.

Part number D3Z-17696-CA is the same thing, but with memory - in case your F-150 is a Lariat or above trim. $650 MSRP and buying price is a hair over $500 for the pair. My F-150 is a Lariat Plus, but Ididn't think the memory was worth $200 so Iordered the XLT version. They work fine.

If your 2014 is a Lariat or above trim, then the OEM tow mirrors also have power fold and power telescope. Those tow mirrors are not yet available in the accessories catalog, but you can order the numerous parts to install them on your F-150 - but it will cost you an arm and a leg and your firstborn son. So if you want powr fold, then aftermarket is the way to go in that case. Contact 1-A Auto for good aftermarket tow mirrors with all the goodies including power fold, for about $500 per pair.
