Default Tongue Weight???

I'm new to the Ford family and this forum. We are shopping for a TT and I was amazed that some of the campers had a tongue weight of 550# and some had 988#. What kind of tongue weight can I safely have on my 2013 XLT EcoBoost with 3.55 gears. By the way, I will be using a WD hitch. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Open your drivers door. Yellow and black sticker will list cargo capacity. I'm guessing it will say somewhere around 1500# give or take unless you have max tow.

Passengers plus cargo plus tongue weight is most you are supposed to have.

So if you have a family of five and a load of firewood then you won't have a lot left for tongue weight. If you're a single guy then you'll have quite a bit of room.

You want the rules or you want practicality/real world. Rules say 500 max without equalizer hitch. Real world 1500 lbs or less is fine.
