Default Thank You Senior Members for your patience (TT buyers read thier advice)

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you crusty ole F150 bubbas who have been towing for years. I know that the continuous questions concerning what can/can't be towed must be exhausting at times. Especially when a question is asked and the answer was posted the day before.

I just purchased a 2014 SCREW/EB/trailer package/4x4. When we found out we had orders to Alaska we thought now is the time to get a TT. Well you guessed it....the salesman told us the fiver we were looking at only weighs 7580lbs(dry and new from factory) you are well within your tow capability. Huh, interesting. After reading several posts Found out that my payload is 1342 and the hitch weight alone is 1585, not including all the extras and people.(Rear axle GAWR is 3850) If I am tracking everyone's advice I have to make sure I'm good on the payload side and not focus on the other numbers. If I missed something please course correct me.

I think I was about to really Test the EB on a 4K mile trip in some challenging conditions. Although I really want a fiver, we'll start looking again at something the truck can comfortably handle.

Again thanks for you patience and advice especially the 'grumpy old man'

Yup, 1585 dry is over 1800 loaded, too much for even with Max Tow and HD Payload. The max dry pin weight for those combined packages is about 1400 lbs. Honestly, the tow package should be dropped and Max Tow used instead. Everyone gets bummed when they find out the tow package is for a utility trailer with a lawn tractor on it. Max Tow is for towing campers and HD payload is for big campers and lighter fivers.

So you don't even think I could pull a 25ish pull behind?

Yes you can depending on the tongue weight.

Thanks twisty...we are looking at something in the 500 range. I think if I keep listening and reading I'll get it right. Sure as heck don't want to be on the ALCAN and break down. Really want to camp up in Alaska though.

The alcan is an adventure well worth taking and the camping is great both in Canada and Alaska. But be prepared there are long distances between service's so you might want to pack some spare fluids and an extra spare tire for the trailer and some tools I know this will add to the weight but you will probably be glad you did. Oh and watch your fuel fill up when you can

So we are going with a Keystone Cougar 28rbs.

The Truck with us in it and a full tank of gas weighed 6420 + 500(w/weight distribution hitch) = 6920 GvVW (GVWR is 7200) The trailer weight is 6392 w/1808 capacity (if we filled it up with that much stuff) = 8200 + 6920 = 15120. Below the GCWR of 15500. Close I know but that's with some cushion already added in.

Any thoughts?
