Default Tekonsha Prodigy P3 install???

I just bought a used 2011 F150 5.0 stx with out the tow package it came with a hitch and ford 7 pin and flat 4 pin plug-in. I bought a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller with the ford wiring harness when I went to plug it into the harness under the dash it won't turn on it just flickers and my dash lights go out. When I unplug it the truck goes back to normal HELP!!!!

I'd return it and get the ford factory trailer brake controller. it integrates wayyy better and wood be built into the system.

Second that. It WILL plug into and mount in the truck like it was made for it (because it was). You'll need to take it to the dealer to make it recognized by the truck, and you'll be done.

That does sound like a defective unit. Either exchange it or go Ford.

I think they sent me the wrong ford harness because one of the pins is in a different place than the one in the picture they are sending me a new one to see if that fixes it.

For what it's worth, I've owned the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 and must say it's a damn nice aftermarket controller. Granted I too prefer the integration of the factory unit on my F150, but I've used that Prodigy in another vehicle and it's really nice. Loads of intelligent features and I dig the advanced brake logic. Wish the factory units had some of that intelligence too.

Literally X2.

I had the same controller in a 1998 F150 and loved it!.
Much prefer my factory controller in the 2013.
