I just added 24" to the tongue of my boat trailer as I had a similar issue. It also meant I could not put the boat trailer on my ATV hitch to move around the yard. In my case it was not the jack ( I have a flip up type jack) but the actual upright for the boat that was this issue.

No issues now and it looks better with the longer tongue
