Question Stupid questions about towing mounts and *****

So I picked up a '13 F150 EcoBoost with the 3.73 and max tow packages because it was rated to tow in excess of 11,000lbs. That said my old Chevy could only tow about 5,000lbs and I picked up a 3 ball combo for it that I was using, anyway it was a lower class tow than the one I have now so I'm trying to figure out what combination I need to pickup.

My biggest problem is I figure if I can tow up to 11,200 lbs I should get a combination rated for at least 12,000lbs. However, pretty much everything I'm looking at is rated to like 5-7,000lbs.

Admittedly my towing experience is very limited and I needed this setup to tow around a racecar. I found a few mounts/***** on Amazon that I can have shipped free through Prime but again the rating is throwing me off.

Thoughts?

look in your manual...to tow 11000lbs you'll need a weight distribution hitch/torsion bar setup....

depending on your tongue weight too, maybe a forged hitch..

Your hitch is only rated for 5000# without a WDH.

To get to that 11000# you'll need a weight distribution hitch.

Any suggestions on a good one or at least a brand to look at? I don't know what is quality and crap at this point.

I've got one like that, and it worked fine. But it has no sway control.

If all you'll ever do is tow low side trailers or an unenclosed race car on a flat bed, you'll probably be fine.

But if you ever want to haul a long, high side Travel Trailer, a WDH with some sort of sway control is a must. Side wind gusts and the bow wave of passing semis can really push your high side trailer around, and your truck too.

Hitches like Equal-i-zer 4pt. are good at sway control. They are more expensive. There are others.

I use the Equal-i-zer with 4 way sway control with my 7500lb trailer. It works very well and is easy to setup and take apart.

You might be looking in the wrong place. Try RVWholesalers.com for more reasonable pricing.

The Anderson hitch is getting great reviews. I think it's my next puchase.
