Size difference in tow vs regular mirrors?
#11
I had the tow mirrors on my 2010 XLT F150 and while the they were great for towing, they had some negatives related to their size.
When ever I went into a drive through in a bank, ATM, or pharmacy, the mirrors would either be on the verge getting scraped or I'd have to fold them in.
The XLT standard side mirrors have self dimming on the driver's side. The tow mirrors while adding the puddle light feature, delete the self dimming feature which I feel is a great feature to have to compliment the self dimming rear view interior mirror.
I bought the K-Source mirrors for my other F150s after that, for my 2012 F150 XLT and my current 2016 F150. The K-source mirrors are great. I'm actually camping right now and my mirrors did great towing my travel trailer in a bad rain storm.
If the extension length isn't an issue for you, or the loss of the self dimming feature, the tow mirrors were really nice for sure and offered a lot of view including the blind spot.
I test drove a truck with the new designed tow mirrors on a 2016 and did have somewhat of a difficult time adjusting to how the convex and flat mirrors were arranged to each other. I never did have that issue with my 2010.

I guess I will have to try it out at one of the dealers. They seem very functional, but don't know how I like the look.

Love my tow mirrors, I wasn't willing to buy a truck without them. After 6 years of strapping on mirrors on my previous SUV, I LOVE the tow mirrors on the F150.
The only problem in Canada, you have to buy the Lariat model to get power folding and power retracting, it's not an option on the XLT.

I really don't care for the look of the tow mirrors, I think I heard someone refer to them as "dumbo ears". Though it seems very functional for not only towing, but also for normal day to day. They are also not all that much if you get it installed by the factory. I guess if I go for the HDPP, I will get the tow mirrors. Else I might hold off.

I was reading a review on edmunds and they said it added a lot of road noise. Any input on that? I ask as I put more aggressive AT tires on my SUV last year and regret it as it is loud!
