Default RAS vs Air Bags pros and cons

All,

I am looking at getting some type of helper spring/assist for my truck. I do not want an AAL, I would like something that will retain stock ride but then when towing or hauling will help with leveling and driving manners.

I would appreciate the pros and cons of each from real world experience. I have read up on both but want real opinions on each system.

Thanks in advance.

Edit - I posted this in the 09 and up section but didn't get many hits so I am hoping that posting in the towing section it will get more of a response.

What is ras? I have rear bags with the lines routed into the cab and they work great. I should have bought the heavier duty firestone kit as my bags start to squish when I am fully loaded with the camper and bed with some accessories in it. I have air lift ride rite kit which is rated for a thousand pounds. At 100psi they do the job for me. If I had the firestone kit I would probably only need 65 psi or so as it is rated for 2500 pounds. I will add a picture of my tongue heavy trailer.

Here is my truck with a 24' and 12,000lbs with the Firestone air bags. I'm glad I bought them. Made a long haul from GA to California no issues

Not sure if there's anybody here who has used both RAS and air bags.

Air bags and xtra springs should improve handling with heavy loads, as does RAS. But, as I understand it, RAS has some xtra capabilities, like reducing spring wrap and axle hop. And people on this forum who have tried it do say that RAS works as advertised.

I've got a RAS on order. If you go for it, just make sure you get the right model.

I used SuperSprings as they were reasonable and very easy to install. They raised the rear about 3/4" and the ride is only slightly firmer. If I were doing it today, I would seriously consider RAS. No particular reason except that it is innovative technology that solves multiple problems.
