Default Quick TT question

Don't know Much about this but it's not a truck related question. My camper says on the sticker on the outside concerning air pressure for the camper tires. It's says cold psi 50 pounds so that means I put 50 in the tires before I take a trip correct. What would be the benefit of running 50 pounds versus say running 35. I figured running lower air would make the camper run smoother and not as bouncy. To be honest I only ever run 30 pounds in them and have not towed to many miles like thay. But should i just put 50 in them and be done

They are likely under inflated at 30. In order to have the proper load rating they must be inflated to the proper psi. If these are stock tires sizes and classes for the trailer, follow the trailer recommendations.

I bought the trailer used. So not sure if they are the stock tires but, they are the same size the as the sticker says on the camper. What kind of handling difference can I expect going to 50

it'll roll smoother and with less resistance. Also, it'll keep the tires cooler as it'll flex less.

Correct. But "cold" means cold, not after you drag the trailer a few miles to get to an air compressor. I air up my trailer tires on my driveway after the trailer has sat overnight or longer.

What would be the benefit of running 50 pounds versus say running 35.
Blow outs on the under-inflated trailer tires. Always pump up the trailer tires to the PSI on the sidewall, else the tires will run hot and much more likely to blow out. In fact, I usually upgrade my trailer tires to the next larger size, or the next higher max inflation PSI, to minimize the chances of a heat-caused blow out.

If you insist on a lower PSI than max, then find a TRA load/ inflation chart for your exact size and type tires and apply that table. First you must weigh the wet and loaded trailer and know how much weight is on the trailer axles. Then divide that weight by the number of tires on the trailer to get the approximate weight on each tire.

Here is that chart for size ST205/75R15 that are standard on many smaller rv trailers:
PSI ...Max weight
--- ... ----------
25 ... 1220
30 ... 1360
35 ... 1480
40 ... 1610
45 ... 1720
50 ... 1820
http://www.maxxis.com/trailer/traile...nflation-chart

For example my 5er with those tires grosses 8,000 pounds, with 6,800 on the trailer axles. Divided by 4 = 1,700 pounds on each tire. So I must have at least 45 PSI in those tires.

But when towing that trailer with 50 PSI in the trailer tires, I had two blow outs on a 4.000-mile trip. So I upgraded tires and wheels to ST225/75R15D pumped up 65 PSI cold, and no more blowouts over the next 100,000 miles.

Ok so my best bet it to up them to 50 correct. I'm getting to go camping today, but only about 80 miles round trip from home. I pumped them up to 42 but if guys suggest going to 50 I will do so
